The artwork featured on our magnets comes from some of the most talented and accomplished outdoor artists available today. Here is a little insight as to who they are and what motivates them.

Michael Schreck
An avid sportsman, Alabama artist Michael Shrecks' love and respect for the outdoors and all things wild is very evident in his work. The detail and realism in his paintings can only come from inspiration derived from personal time and experience devoted to the subjects, whether it be hunting and fishing in America or Africa, the Civil War or the Western Frontier.

His work is in private collections around the world and owned by museums such as the Anniston Museum of Natural History, the Owsley Brown Frazier Museum of Historical Arms in Louisville and the Fayville Museum of Western Art in Klamath Falls, Ore.

In 2000, his image of a quail, titled "A Close Call," was selected for the Quail Unlimited stamp. Other work has been reproduced as prints for Ducks Unlimited and the Alabama Wildlife Federation and featured in books and wildlife periodicals.

Larry Chandler
Alabama artist Larry Chandler became interested in art at a very early age. His dad was a talented artist and helped inspire Larry to draw well before he started grade school. Frequent hunting trips with his dad and brother growing up exposed Larry to nature and all its wonders. While out in the field, Larry learned to pay close attention to his wildlife subjects - their detail, habits and surroundings. Most of Larry's early paintings were watercolors and pastels. Later, he was introduced to oils by a neighbor who also painted. This proved to be the medium he chose for his future artwork. After seeing paintings of African game by his highly-regarded artist friend Michael Schreck, who had taken many photographs on a trip to Africa, Larry became re-inspired to concentrate on wildlife. At that point in time, Larry could paint almost anything, but he found accurately depicting animals in their natural habitat to be the most challenging.

Larry has been National Artist of the Year for Ducks Unlimited (twice), Quail Unlimited, Waterfowl USA and his art hangs in the Smithsonian Institution. He has done artwork for The Franklin Mint, Lennox Co., The Hamilton Collection, SeaBrook Wallpaper Company, Spillsbury Puzzle Company, Ravensburger Puzzle Company, Manuel Wood Workers and Weavers, Goodwin Weavers, Fine Art Creations and Marathon Apparel to name a few. Larry still paints a variety of subject matter, but his popular sporting dog portraits have brought him the acclaim that has earned him commissions in several fields of art.

Michael Matherly

The works of internationally renowned artist, Michael Ross Matherly, are synonymous with beauty, feeling and perfection. Matherly's works are collected throughout the world.  An Indiana native, Matherly's main sources of inspiration are his wife of 29 years, Debbie, and his son Tyler. As a young boy, this self-taught artist showed outstanding talent.  The achievements he holds are evidence of his love for and dedication to his art. Diversity in subject matter has been both his strength and a necessary source of inspiration. With a multitude of interests and loves, he works in acrylic, always striving to call forth a freshness in his work.  He spends a great deal of time researching his subjects. That is obviously reflected in the details of his paintings.  Michael lives on his farm with his family, and he has planted hundreds of trees and created habitats in areas for wildlife, which is a constant source of inspiration for his wildlife and nature paintings. They also raise horses, which he loves, and enjoys trail riding when he finds the time. In the future, he will be producing more equestrian art. Michael strives to create works of art that touches the heart and soul of those viewing it, and to give us a new appreciation of ourselves and to evoke the love and touch the sensitivity that is inside us all.
